V3 Offices in Durban was developed as a double-storey commercial office building within Westway Office Park, combining accommodation for a multi-disciplinary engineering practice with speculative office space for future tenants. The project sought to create a highly flexible professional environment capable of supporting a variety of office configurations while responding to the steep topography and prominent visibility of the site.

The principal challenge was designing adaptable office floor plates on a steeply sloping site while maintaining efficient circulation, structured parking and a clear architectural identity. The building also needed to reflect the technical precision of the engineering profession through its construction and detailing.

The design organised two office wings around a central circulation and service core, allowing flexible tenant subdivision and varied office layouts. Street-level access was achieved through a series of pedestrian ramps leading to the central entrance spine above structured parking. Twin curved barrel roofs supported on exposed tubular steel trusses created lightweight floating forms, integrating air-conditioning and lighting systems within the roof structure. Black slate spine walls and carefully articulated steel elements reinforced a sense of arrival and structural clarity.

The completed building provides a flexible and visually distinctive office environment that responds directly to both site and function. Its light steel construction, expressive roofscape and adaptable planning establish a refined commercial presence within the office park setting.
