Ras Al Khaimah is one of the oldest continuously inhabited settlements on the Arabian Peninsula, with a maritime history shaped by its strategic position along the Straits of Hormuz. The project studied the historic peninsula precinct—traditionally the city’s arrival point from the sea—and guided the development of newly reclaimed land between the harbour and Al Khor.
The main challenge was balancing growth with preservation. While parts of the historic city remain intact, new development risked fragmenting the relationship between the waterfront, heritage areas, and the expanding urban fabric. The reclaimed land also offered an opportunity to redefine how the city connects its past and future.
The urban design strategy strengthens legibility by linking key buildings, public spaces, and cultural precincts. Movement networks and spatial relationships are structured to reinforce the peninsula’s historic role while integrating new development areas.
