The Les Salines Waterfront Development is conceived as a strategic urban regeneration project on land owned by the Mauritius Port Authority at the edge of Port Louis. Positioned between the working harbour and the city centre, the project aims to transform underutilised waterfront land into a vibrant mixed-use precinct incorporating tourism, commercial, and civic uses.
A key challenge is the integration of a new arterial bypass route and harbour crossing bridge required to address traffic movement around the port. Rather than allowing infrastructure to fragment the site, the proposal incorporates large-scale transport systems within a coherent urban framework that reconnects the waterfront to the city and unlocks long-term investment potential.
The masterplan positions the harbour crossing bridge as a catalyst for urban development rather than a purely infrastructural element. The waterfront is structured around complementary destinations, including a cruise terminal, conference centre, hotels, offices, and public spaces. The result is a connected and accessible waterfront district that strengthens the relationship between Port Louis and its harbour while supporting sustained economic and civic activity.
