Ras Al Khaimah is one of the oldest continuously inhabited settlements on the Arabian Peninsula, with a rich maritime history centred on its strategic position along the Straits of Hormuz. The project was commissioned to study the historic peninsula precinct, traditionally the city's point of arrival from the sea, and to guide the development of newly reclaimed land between the harbour and Al Khor.

The challenge lay in balancing growth with preservation. While parts of the historic city remained remarkably intact, new development risked fragmenting the relationship between the waterfront, heritage precincts and the expanding urban fabric. The reclaimed land also presented an opportunity to redefine how the city connected its past and future.

The urban design strategy focused on strengthening legibility across the city by establishing clear connections between significant buildings, public spaces and cultural precincts. Movement networks and spatial relationships were carefully structured to reinforce the peninsula's historic role while integrating new areas of development.

The resulting urban framework created a coherent link between the old and new city, enhancing accessibility, reinforcing cultural identity and providing a foundation for future growth that respects Ras Al Khaimah's historic character and maritime heritage.
